Do What You Want!
by Ernie Bray
You see them on infomercials, in the gym, and even hear
about them from friends: "Do this and you will get the body you
want!"
Everybody seems to have the ultimate solution for a fit body; and
every so often a craze sweeps the nation, be it aerobics, Tae Bo,
running, you name it.
While these programs can be great, nothing is a perfect cure all
for everyone. We all have individual likes and dislikes and for us
to stay motivated we need to enjoy what we are doing. Some of these
new programs may be just what you need to kick start your fitness
routine. For others, things as simple as a brisk walk and a light
strength training workout may be the answer.
Engaging in a fitness routine for many people can appear to be a
daunting task. The reason for starting may have been from a doctor's
suggestion due to a health crisis or just feeling compelled to make
a change. While it is easy for those who love working out to stay
motivated and add variety to their fitness plan, for others who are
new, it is a foreign territory.
If you are just starting out, I encourage you to try different things
and not to get discouraged. Discover what works for you as an individual.
Also, don't forget that balance is important. Living a "Fitness
Lifestyle" doesn't mean giving up everything you enjoy. You can
have a "free day" once a week: rest and eat whatever you
want. Following a strict regimen will do nothing but lead you to resent
the very "Fitness Lifestyle" you are trying to live.
Remember do what you enjoy and have fun!
Just a quick note:
The fastest way to fitness is a balanced approach utilizing proper
nutrition, a basic strength training program, and moderate cardiovascular
training.
